THE STAFF
The staff reserves the right to deal with purposefully disruptive or abbrassive behavior, illegal, or overtly sexual behavior. Even if not included in the rules below, if a user is being disruptive to the chat, the staff, the community or the roleplay, the staff reserve the right to deal with things in a timely fashion.

If at all possible, staff are expected to handle issues, warnings, and requests quietly in whispers to avoid compounding arguments or causing excessive OOC. In the case that there are three or more offenders, however, the warnings should go public to the rest of the room.

PUNISHMENTS:
Punishments vary on situation. Minor offenses imply a warn-kick-ban. Moderate to severe situations, or repeat offenders, may lose the warn step and skip immediately to kick and ban. Only the most obscene offenses will be subject to immediate banishment. A first time offender will have a ban of 3 to 10 days; a repeat offender's ban can be of any duration depending on the severity of their crime. A logged repeat offender may have the right to a warning stripped from them and skip immediately to the kick step. Depending on the nature of the offense, a user may find themselves only banned from the OOC room, until their disruption spreads to IC rooms.
RULES

DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR:
Any behavior that is disruptive to the flow of the chat and community will not be tolerated. Disruptive behavior includes, but is not limited to:

  • Excessive OOC: Persistant out of character talk in in-character rooms, that which interferes with and is not immediately applicable to the situation; that which causes a disruption; that which fills an entire screen on normal resolution.
  • Spam: defined as unsolicited advertisement, repeated messages, rapid-fire messages or excessive caps or symbols
  • OOC Harassment: defined as taunting, Racism, Sexism, or Hate Campaigns, RL or online, distribution of private personal information; also, harassing a user in the IC world for OOC motivations is also against the rules. True in-character harassment is permissable.
  • Excessive sexuality: ALL SEXUAL ROLEPLAY or "cyber" must be moved to a private room. Generally, profile images, content and images can not show bared genitalia. Image poses and profile content can not be explicit in nature - including bondage or provocative positions. These are up to staff discretion. Profiles will not list sexual preferences or activities. Anything of a sexual nature may be asked to be removed. Excessive sexual talk is not allowed. Tasteful nudity may be permitted, but requires staff consent.
  • Illegal activities: While in Szurane, one must abide by ALL local, state, and federal laws--both of the server and the user's location [Server located in the US]. This also covers copyright infringement in the case that an artist requests their art not be used. Sexual laws also applicable. One may not knowingly partake in cyber sex or sexual situations with an out-of-character minor; while it is controvercial, in-character relations of this sort are permissable, much like harassment.
  • Hacking/Security: Port scans, probes, use of network security tools, DoS, use of chat flaws and glitches, without the express consent of the webmasters, is subject to IMMEDIATE BANISHMENT and report to authorities.

  • USER MADE ROOMS:
User made rooms are expected to abide by all existing rules in the chat; the room owner can choose to waive the rule on OOC to their level of preference. User made rooms are under the responsibility of the users who make them, and may have their own additional rule sets. It is asked that these rules are outlined with the /describe command; however, if a situation should arise, alert all users in noticeable, bold, or capitalized text to alert all users of the new rule; if a user enters after the rule is put in place, it can not be applied to them, and should hopefully be in the description at this point. If your room description is full, please place room rules in your profile for easy access.

In terms of role play, the system is chosen by the room moderator. If the room owner disagrees with your standards in fighting or other RP, please conform to their standards and leave or they reserve the right to kick. In short, respect their personal RPs; if it's a realistic human setting, only use things within human standards; if it's a setting where all reality can be nullified, don't walk into their room and get upset when it happens. Knowing disruption warrants a kick; it is asked that room moderators warn before they kick--however, it is not necessary. We consider it polite. Be polite to those who are polite to you. Room moderators that abuse these kicking priviledges will be considered disruptive to the chat community and may have their powers revoked or another punishment dealt upon the situation.

    IC RULES:

IC rules in Szurane are minimal to nonexistant. People are free to play however they want. However, in the situation that an OOC argument arises over the result of a fight or other RP situation, a moderator may be called in to serve as a neutral judge for the situation. Before a decision is made, both parties must willingly agree to whatever decision the staff member makes--in which case, the decision is final. Further public argument will be considered disruption.

    YOUR RIGHTS:
Users reserve the right to appeal bans at Szurane at gmail dot com, subject Ban Appeal: Username. A user who publicly complains on a forum before seeking moderative action through private measures waives their right to an appeal.

Users reserve the right to report abusive users at Szurane at gmail dot com subject Abuse Log: Offending Username.

Moderators reserve the right to declare harassment upon themselves by a particularly abbrassive user. If a mod complains of harassment to the user, the user must stop contacting them and resort to another moderator or form of complaint; if they do not cease, the moderator may submit a log. Upon review, if another moderator believes it constitutes as harassment, the user may be subject to a ban depending on the severity. In short: Please use proper venues to appeal that are non-disruptive and not harassive.
