I know this is a late announcement considering the contest opened on April 2, but one of my watchers on Deviant Art, http://splatkiriki.deviantart.com/ is running a contest.

The deadline is the 19th of April, so that's still 5 days!! I'll copy/paste the information here from his journal, and I encourage any interested character artists to participate!!
For the contest, you're asked to illustrate one of the races from his story world, and he gives guidelines for each race! I'm entering, and I think it's a great excuse to try drawing something you wouldn't normally, and a creation that isn't strictly your own!

GOOD LUCK IF YOU'RE ENTERING! THANKS YOU GUYS!

Now, from the journal of http://splatkiriki.deviantart.com/:

What now?
This week on Contests No One Cares Aboot, Dem Irbian Character Design! I will provide descriptions of several Dem Iribian races, you will pick one and design and draw a character of that race!

The Races
Child of Insight
Average Height (F): 6'4"
Average Height (M): 6'7"
Physically: Slender, pale skinned, with dark hair and dark eyes. They have antlers growing from their foreheads which range from green to purple to blue. ([link] Example of a Child of Insight)
Clothes: Not much. Children of Insight believe in wearing less clothes, to show their scars, as they believe that scars are a measure of one's strength. Their clothes are always in colors close to the color of their antlers.
Names: Insight names always end in "ion". Examples: Illustration, Trepidation. They have no last names.

Paradisian
Average Height (F): 5'5"
Average Height (M): 5'7"
Physically: Slender, blue or green skinned with blue or green hair, and blue or green eyes. Their eyes have three pupils each which can move independently of each other(the left ones always move together, the center ones move together, the right ones move together). They have three fingers and 4 toes, with each having a suction pad on it which can stick to anything, even a gust of wind or the surface of water. They also have long tails with three finger-like appendages at the end which also have suction cups.
([link] Example of a Paradisian)
Clothes: Nothing particular.
Names: Usually short first names, but no one would think twice if one had a long name. Their last names have two parts, the first being the indication of rank, the second part being the actual last name. See the above example's Artist's Comment for details. Example: Sane fen'Cisp

Child of Moonflower
Average Height (F): 7'
Average Height (M): 7'7"
Physically: Thin, lanky, with greenish skin and blue or green hair, and green eyes. They have many moonflowers growing out of the hair which show in their hair like decorations. Generally, they look angry.
([link] Example of a Child of Moonflower)
Clothes: Nothing particular.
Names: Nothing particular, though their names often contain many "E"s and "SH"/"TH" sounds. Example: Theer di'Virsh.

Mooncat
Average Height (F): 6'8"
Average Height (M): 7'4"
Physically: Much like Children of Moonflower(see above), but their skin and hair are less blue/green, and more of a regular color, though blue and greens are still evident. So, their skin is similar to a Child of Insight's, with a greenish tint, and their hair is dirty blond or brown with a blue or greenish tint. Their eyes are ALWAYS blue, and have oval shaped pupils. Like Moonflowers, they have flowers growing from their heads. They also have feline ears(lynx, specifically), and a feline tail(lynx, specifically).
IMPORTANT: Female Mooncats will have the Middle Gear on their forehead: [link] , [link]
([link] Example of a Mooncat. It wouldn't hurt to have more green/blue tint on the skin and hair though)
Clothes: Because the first Mooncat(Malright) was raised by a Child of Insight(Illustration), they often choose to dress in the traditional Child of Insight fashion, of not wearing much, though not always.
Names: Nothing particular for first names, but they have a prominent "kiri," in their last names, which comes from the original Mooncat's last name, Kiriki.

The Details
Contest will go until April 19th, The Goddess Caethiri Kiriki's birthday! On the 19th I will announce the winner! Prizes come as they are available, which means sub or points will be immediate, but obviously a request will take time.

The Prizes
1st Place: 3 month sub, OR 800 Points.
2nd Place: One request(no animals please) OR 400 Points.

IN THE EVENT THAT MORE THAN 10 PEOPLE SUBMIT ENTRIES, I WILL ALTER THE PRIZES AS FOLLOWS.

1st Place: 6 month sub, OR 2,000 Points.
2nd Place: 3 month sub, OR 800 Points.
3rd Place: One request OR 400 Points.

So, if you want the prizes to be better, tell all your friends!

Submission and Judgement
If you want to enter, tell me you're working on an entry so I can put you on the list. Tell me what race you are entering(you can change your mind, but I need to know so the list can be kept up to date). The list is so that people can see how many have entered, and which races are being done(so maybe everyone won't pick Mooncat just because it has a bit of kitty). It will be good when there are close to 10 people, because it will encourage more people to enter to get to those super awesome prizes.
When you actually submit your entry, I will also post a link to it in the list next to your name. I'm not worried about people copying others because besides the entries, there are millions of other of places to get ideas, and if someone REALLY copies, it will be obvious and they will lose points.

Judging is simple.
Accuracy: How accurate your drawing is to the description. The description takes priority over references in certain cases. For example, the description for Mooncat states oval shaped pupils, though in the reference they are round. Oval is correct.
Originality: If you just copy the references you lose points. Stay true to the descriptions but be original.
Costume(detail): I'm not good at costumes. If your costumes are more boring that the ones my characters have, you're not doing to good. Make the costume interesting.

NOTE: NO BASES. If cannot enter with a picture drawn on a base. I would rather a picture you drew yourself. It doesn't have to be "good", just accurate, original, an interesting. Use references for body parts if you're afraid you can't draw well enough. Anyone can enter!

A group I'm part of on DeviantArt is hosting a contest, and I'm offering some of the prizes along with other members. The theme is reversed fairytales. Think male damsels in distress, and female knights in shining armour. I'll post the promotional poster here, so if you want to screw me out of a few dollars (I'm paying for some of the premium membership prizes) please enter! The deadline isn't for a few months, so there's plenty of time to get working on something!
